Description

The listing, RARE & VINTAGE World War II Zig Zag PHEBUS Cigarette Papers Issued to Soldiers has ended.

Here is your chance to own an unused pack of RARE Zig Zag Phebus cigarette papers. This was recently found in a World War II US Military supply crate which had been unopened since the war. The Zig Zag company originated in France, but after the German invasion in WWII a factory was opened in the US and produced the iconic PHEBUS papers which were made from Egyptian cotton to burn evenly with no ash. The package features a great image of the Zig Zag Man. Legend has it that in the 1850s, during a year-long operation known as the Siege of Sevastopol in the Crimean War, a light-infantry soldier in the French army who was known as a Zouave got in the way of a speeding bullet and lived to tell the tale. Unfortunately, his clay pipe was not so lucky and was shattered. Stuck in the middle of a war, the unnamed soldier couldn’t obtain a new pipe, so he reached for a gunpowder bag, ripped off a piece of paper, wrapped his tobacco inside, and lit up. This makeshift vessel for smoking became very popular and the modern cigarette was invented. The unknown Zouave soldier lives on today as the iconic Zig Zag Man. This pack is like new but aged as it's over 70 years old. FREE SHIPPING in the US! Thanks for looking!
