Description

The listing, Loquat Seeds - Japanese Plum Trees has ended.

Up for auction is 8 loquat seeds. I've also heard these called Japanese Plums. They are sweet yellow fruit, and the trees have large dark green waxy leaves.

I have several trees and the one these seeds are from produces consistently huge fruit. Normally loquats are pretty small. The ones on this tree average the size of golf balls. (See last picture - that's a quarter!)

These are pretty easy to grow, and they are evergreen. (At least here in Zone 8.) Another lister notes that these take 5 years to mature and will tolerate almost any soil. The trees are delicate or thin (but strong) and could probably do well in a planter. It does freeze here and none of my trees seem to notice.

This is the last of the seeds I have for this year. I lost the battle of the fruit to the squirrels. :)

How big are the trees you have? I was just wondering, I live in Maine and I keep some trees indoors over winter.

None of the loquat trees I have (or that I've seen) are very beefy. They're all about 12 inches around the trunk in diameter. (About the width of my upper arm.) The one that I do know is about 4 years old at this time is only about 6 feet tall, and the trunk is a little over 5 inches around. So they do stay rather wispy and grow pretty slow. You might have good luck in a container if you can bring them in when its bitter cold.
