Hi, The no the date is not stamped on the coin, the years of passing hands have worn it away, however the only year this particular coin was produced was in the 1700s, i believe 1776, the unusual thing is that King George III went mad and could not issue new currancy in that state so for several years all the coins were ingraved with the 1776 year, if im not mistaken the metal content is copper and another alloy. I will get my book and repost exact information on the coin. Thank you for your interest.
ok, i spoke of the wrong coin, didnt have my first cup of coffee!!!! :) the year is barely readable however it is a 1797 Cartwheel penny, and the metal content is (av) .999 pure copper, the coin was produced for several years with the same "1797" date.
On a happier note i do have one more Cartwheel penny that is consistant with the prior history in my above comment if the lista community is interested just let me know. Thanks all
