2 nanasgals2 - the device you have that connects your computer to the internet - you probably pay a monthly fee to cable company or direct tv, or whatever source you pay for your internet service, provided a device (like this one) to connect you. Well if you have more than 1 computer in your house you have to have another such device to connect to the internet....and you pay your service company a monthly fee for this device. If you own your own device like this then you don't have to pay a monthly rental fee for second modem (this) . Did I say it so as not to completely confuse you? I do that - not good at explaining stuff - so I hope you understand cause I can't explain it better. (LOL) ;-)

2 brubeenn - that depends upon what speed internet service you are using? It handles all speeds that I am aware of. (dsl or lan / cable)
