Description

The listing, 1930s POPEYE Enamel Cloisonne Original pin Wheatena Cereal advertising Premium prize uncommon has ended.

Offered is an original approximately 1 1/2" metal enamel cloisonne POPEYE toy cartoon character lapel or pocket pinback.

This and other associated Popeye the sailor man character pins (Brutus, Wimpy, Olive Oyl) were apparently given as premiums by Wheatena Cereal as part of their giveaway advertising program in the late 1930s.

Please note damage that some of the enamel is missing as well as the pin from the reverse.

Thanks for commenting. Interesting the types of premiums that cereal manufacturers offered either in the boxes themselves or by mail-in. While that practice continues to some degree the quality of the items offered in the 1930s and 1940s was impressive.
