This auction is for a 1949-D Franklin Silver Half Dollar.

This is the second Year of Mintage for this coin. With the detail still evident in Franklin's Hair on the obverse and the reverse still displaying the Lettering and Lines on the Bell, this coin easily falls into the condition of Almost Uncirculated or a lower Mint State Grade.

This coin is beginning to pick up a warm, "Amber" tone and of course, this coin is 90% Silver.
There are 2 thoughts when it comes to "Toning" on Silver Coins, and those are first, Collectors love the warmth and character that is added to a toning coin. Or secondly, some feel that it makes the coin look "Dirty" or overly worn.
So if this coin is added to a "Whitman's" type of collector's folder, the toning will eventually become much deeper and add to that warmth and character.
If you are in the second group and do not like the toning on a coin, you should have this coin looked at and graded by a TPGS and added to a sealed slab which will either halt, or slow down the toning process. As with any coin, having it professionally graded will add to its worth, but to have this done to a coin that at best will return an MS60 to MS63 grade, it would need to be sent in with multiple coins at once to make the cost worthwhile.
