The listing, Purple Dome Aster has ended.

New England Aster is a native wildflower and a magnet for butterflies and bees.

Purple Dome displays masses of large (1.5"), deep magenta purple flowers with dark brown & golden stamens. Not too tall like other asters, it only grows 24" high. Makes a perfect mound about 24" wide. Blooms in autumn, Sept - Oct.

Likes full sun and good, moisture retaining soil.

Zones 4-8. Perennial.

Seeds collected this spring so stratification has occurred for germination.

Beautiful, watching. Zone 4-8, Sanfrancisco Bay area of California should be OK

As long as there is a cold period, it should be fine.

Krista59, take what I say with the grain of salt since Im also hoping to get these seeds, but you are probably zone 9 or 10. These might survive but not thrive or be really prone to powdery mildew up there.

I do noticed that SF has many micro-climates the one time I visited. Knit hats/gloves in morning, tank top in the afternoon. As long as it has some cold period for dormancy.

This strain is wonderful compared with other asters I have had. It isn't too tall, and with full sun, even in a pot... I even moved them twice, when I got some more irises and needed to move them further back in my front garden, and they just bounced right back. Usually I bypassed asters when shopping for plants, but I had heard so much good stuff about Purple Dome, I was actually excited when I encounter them at a plant sale.

Next year, I will hopefully have a super hardy resilient pink mum for Listia too. I did not save any of the seeds, but I will this fall.
