The listing, RARE @1940 (BRASS) MICKEY MOUSE STANDARD GASOLINE ADVERTISING RING has ended.
In 1939, Standard Gasoline teamed up with Walt Disney in promotion of their products. This particular graphic was done in 1940 with signs for Standard and the Advertising rings. (The following link provides an example of this: http://www.prices4antiques.com/advertising/gas-stations-related/Gas-Station-Sign-Standard-Gasoline-Mickey-Mouse-Tin-1940-24-inch-B198841.htm )
Before ever being put away as a "Collectible", someone in the past actually wore this ring. These are considered "Rare Collectibles".
World War II had already begun, but at this time, the United States of America was not involved; so this and similar items denote a more pleasant ("middle") time when the country was getting back on its feet (post-depression era and pre-conflict). Items with "Mickey" were at their zenith at this time, but soon affected by the European conflict (as was evidenced by the movie "Fantasia' starring no other than Our Mickey, which failed in part to make a profit because the profitable European market was cut off). After this, then gasoline and other necessities came under strict guidelines and rationing, and advertising took a turn more patriotic in nature.
The ring is adjustable, so of course, just about anybody could wear one, and it is made of brass. Some of the "advertising rings" of this time had "plain bands", but this one has the "scrolled engraving".
Now a word from Mickey: "God bless Minnie, God bless Pluto, God bless everyone! Amen!"
