Description

The listing, Russian Comfrey Herb LIVE PLANT has ended.

This is for ONE live root of Russian Comfrey. The photo is the mother plant from where this root will be dug.

Comfrey is a bushy perennial, that, like a peony, will die back after the frosts and come up again in the spring. It has large furry leaves and a spike of mauve flowers, which hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies just love. I use it in the compost, too; I cut the comfrey down just after it flowers and it will come right back. The furry leaves add wonderful nitrogen to the mulch. Some years I can get three harvests from it!

Comfrey has long hairy tap roots, and if you leave one hair behind when you move it, it will grow again. Trust me, I know - that's why I've got so much of it ha ha! Plant it where you want it to stay. I've got it in full sun, I've got it in full shade; I can't seem to kill the danged stuff, so give it a try even if you have brown fingers LOL!

You will receive one piece of root, dug from this clump (don't worry, I know it will come back again!). This is for ONE live plant. I promise you the plant is live when I dig it up. The photo is from the parent bush under my crab apple trees. I know this will grow, and I will ship it in a timely fashion, but I do not guarantee that if you leave it in the box for a week and do not tend to it that it will still be alive. Please play fair.

You are welcome. I wouldn't have a garden without comfrey growing in it.

Do you use it as an herb? Fanned, bidding, and watching.

My dad used to dip the young leaves in batter and eat them like pancakes. We've also added them to a salad before today. I mainly use it as a hummingbird magnet, and a green addition to the compost heap, though.
