Description

The listing, Webcam has ended.

A very generic webcam, with articulate base, microphone jack and manual fine focus!

I bought this for my mother-in-law for Skyp'ing and she used it only once. (It has been sitting in my desk every since she gave it back to me.)

The base can opened clamped to your monitor. The camera head can swiveled and rotated to enable placing it pretty freely on your desk or monitor. It also includes a manual fine focus to help ensure you get a crisp image. Built into the head is a microphone, which plugs directly into the mic jack on your PC.

I lost the driver/application disk but was able to download and test a driver from http://bit.ly/9b0Wbp. (WindowXP only - nothing seems to be available for Vista or Windows7. The website is a bit cheesy, but the driver came out fine.) The only issue with the driver is that I'm unable to turn on the six LED lights. (This is probably a good thing because my mother-in-law's main complaint was that the lights were too bright to actually look into the camera.)

Free shipping in the US only!

Windows users: The driver is available at the link listed in the description.

For the propeller heads out there... Comes up as a "TASCORP USB JPEG Webcam." My Mac (Linux users: lsusb) identifies it as Vendor ID: 0x17a1 Product ID: 0x0128. Googling shows some beta Linux drivers.

Thanks! Do you have the packaged drivers? (I downloaded a set, but can't turn on the LED lights, the next person might want to be able to do it.)

Hey Neil, I've been looking for a cheap webcam for a while. You mentioned that the drivers are XP only but have you tried plugging it in on Windows 7 to see if it will find a driver automatically? I'd like to bid but if it won't work with W7 I'm not really interested. Also, can you ship to Canada if the buyer pays? Thanks for the info.

I don't have a Windows7 machine to check. (Yes, I know...)

The drivers don't come up automatically for WindowXP - you need the installer, so I'm not holding out much hope for Windows7. Googling did come up with some downloads, but they seem to windup back at the link that I provided... Getting it running with Windows7 might be an exercise in frustration.

That aside, shipping for you (and the rest of Canada) is free.

(b.t.w. Are you getting fumes from the Quebec fire as well?)

Thanks for the info, I think I'll have to pass on this one since I don't have much hope regarding drivers.

We aren't getting any of the smoke from the fires on the east coast, but that's not to say we won't... I think most of it is heading southeast and then out to the ocean.

Yes, I'll ship to Canada for free...

I usually send packages out in the US via USPS First Class Mail with Delivery Confirmation, which is pretty quick.

For Canada, I won't be sending it with any sort of delivery confirmation and shipping to Canada takes quite a bit longer (typically 2-3 weeks), so you'll need to be patient. I will be sure to hold onto the receipt in case there is any problem.
