"THE SOVIET NAVAL AIRCRAFT BOMBING

During the 9th and 10th of August 1945, the air forces of the fleet of the Soviet Union inflicted massive strikes on ships, transports and other military targets in the ports of North Korea. The most powerful raids were committed to the port of Racine (Najin), which was occupied by the Imperial Japanese Army. Despite the enemy's strong anti-aircraft fire, the defense of the Japanese port was severely weakened as a result. In addition, the enemy lost a number of ships that were intended for the transfering of land forces by the sea. During the battle, Soviet naval pilots showed courage and heroism. A heroic feat was performed by the young Soviet crew of the "IL-2" aircraft of the 37th assault aviation regiment. Having overcome the fire curtain, the plane successfully attacked the Japanese transport, but when exiting the attack, it caught fire from an enemy antiaircraft artillery shell. The courageous pilot, junior lieutenant Mikhail Yanko, having collected all the forces, sent a plane engulfed by fire to a military facility and heroically perished along with the air gunner I.M. Babkin. Mikhail Yanko September 14, 1945 posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

Painted by artist G.Sotskov.
Printed in Moscow in 1979."
