u dont need a home phone landline. alll u need is a moderate to high internet connectiopn on your computer. wi fi or plug in internet connection. they give u a number /long distance calls. free directory assistance it plugs in to your computer in the usb slot

i have one of these and use it a lot. they give you a number you don't use your home phone number anyway so there is no need to have a phone as far as this is concerned. quality is as good as any phone it just works through your computer. you do need a phone to plug into it. the new rates in 2012 is now 30 dollars a year, but if you make a lot of long distance calls it is worth it or if you just want another phone line. i could say a lot more but will leave it to the person that has it for auction. don't want to be a butinsky or anything just tried to help a little.

magic jack went to $29 year service, unless you pay for 5 years, also to do a number change is $10, i have used this for 4 years now
