How exactly does this work? Im surprised I have never heard of this before. I have DIRECTV, Does it have to be connected to do something certain or is it just a receiver? sorry to sound so dumb, its very rare I run across a piece of TECH I dont know about.. Thanks

You connect an ethernet cord to it and then connect it to the direct tv box and you will have all the extra benefits the box offers. I forget what all you get though. I needed it just to start recording things from my phone app.
