The listing, *RARE* 1963 Star Note - District B - New York - Short Run has ended.

1963 $1 Star Note - Run of 640,000 (Short Run) - District B (New York)

Up for bid is a rare & collectible US Star Note! Star Notes are identified by the 'star' at the end of the serial number and are "error replacement" notes." Approximately 1/2 of 1% of bills printed each year are Star Notes making them VERY collectible!

When collecting Star Notes you try to get one from each run in a given series (year).

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT CONDITION: The star note shown in the photos is for example only so you can see what signature blocks you'll be getting, etc. The condition of your bill will vary as all are circulation finds. I promise that it won't have hole, have pieces missing, be ripped or torn or have significant damage. It will be at least an F (Fine) quality or above.

Shipping is free! I am listing a number of different Star Notes so be sure to bid on them all!

*PLEASE VOTE* I want Listia to add a "Conditional Free Shipping" option that removes shipping if bids hit a certain amount. PLEASE VOTE FOR IT on Listia's feedback site: http://bit.ly/GMgDV5 If you agree with this, please add this to your auctions!

Collecting coins and currency is fun & potentially very profitable. Of all the type of collectibles within the currency area, "Star Notes" are one of the easiest to collect and also one of the most fun.

A "Star Note" has an asterisk or star at the end of the serial number & is an error replacement bill. During the printing process, bill with errors are removed and replaced one-for-one with a star note. Modern print runs are done in 32-subject sheets (32 bills per sheet) with a run of 100,000 sheets or 3.2 million bills.

Full Run: A bill from a run of 3.2 million is called a "Full Run" Star Note

Short Run: A bill from a run of less than 3.2 million is called a "Short Run" Star Note

Both are collectible with Short Run bills being the most desirable. When collecting Star Notes, you can collect a District Set or a Full Block Set.

District Set: There are twelve (12) districts in the Federal Reserve Banking System, A-L. They are:

FRB A - Federal Reserve Bank of Boston
FRB B - Federal Reserve Bank of New York
FRB C - Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia
FRB D - Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland
FRB E - Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond
FRB F - Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta
FRB G - Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago
FRB H - Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis
FRB I - Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis
FRB J - Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City
FRB K - Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas
FRB L - Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco

A "District Set" is when you collect one bill from each of the 12 districts for a particular series (year) and denomination. With star notes not every district is printed for series. For example, the 2006 $1 notes have seven districts with Star Notes: B, D, F, G, J, K & L. See below for a good reference site.

A "Full Block Set" is when you collect one of every Star Note run printed for a particular series & denomination. For example, the 2006 $1 Star Notes have 16 total runs printed, so you'd need 16 star notes to have a full block set of Star Notes.
