Description

The listing, Loofa or Luffa - grow them with these seeds has ended.

Ok...you've gone to the store and bought overly priced "natural Loofa"....used it for a little bit, and then back to buy more.

Wouldn't it be fun to grow your own? What about eating the squash plant that Loofa comes from?

Loofah Squash [Si Gua] is commonly consumed in Asian countries, either in a soup or sauteed. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luffa). Harvest them young to eat, or let them ripe on the vine for sponge.

From last year's crop: Picture #1 and #3 are from my backyard. #2 is my lovely mom with harvested young Loofah squash...getting them for dinner. #4 is a stock picture of Loofah scrubber.

For this auction - you will receive 10 Loofah seeds from my own garden. Perfect time to start planting them now for a late-spring/summer harvest.

Thanks. I think I'm out-a-luck unless I build a greenhouse. I have been planning on it for years. Maybe this is the motivation I need!

I don't know too much about this...so had to look it up. It prefers warmer weather, but different sites said either zone 6 or 7 is ok.
Sites below provided for FYI only - I can't vouch for the info it contains.

Hi, Does this plant grow back every year or do you replant them? Thanks
Apr 14th, 2012 at 12:40:59 PM PDT by
Original
You would need to replant them. At the end of the season, the vines whither up and die. Typically, I leave 1-2 gourds on the vine for seeds and extra-large loofa.

Is it to late in the season to plant now? I live in texas.

Not too late at all. I planted some in June last year (I'm in Southern California). The gourds might not get as big, especially if it hits a cold spell.
