A watermelon farmer was determined to scare off the local kids who went into his watermelon patch every night to eat their fill. Every day he'd see the carnage of damaged and eaten watermelon.

After some thought, he made a sign that said, “WARNING! One of these watermelons has been injected with POISON!”

He smiled smugly as he watched the kids run off the next night without eating any of his melons. That aught to do it, he thought.

A week later, the farmer was surveying his field. To his satisfaction, no watermelons were missing and he was ready to harvest his fine crop of watermelon ... .. but he found a sign next to his ingenius WARNING sign that read:

NOW THERE ARE TWO!

Why are those watermelons square shaped?

Howdy 2ManTu. The watermelons are square because, that's how they're grown. You can grow many fruits and vegetables inside of a container to take on the shape. French are good for the pear in the wine bottle.

This year, heart shaped watermelon is popular. I can't find a heart shaped mold and so, I'll just make one out of wood by reshaping a box. I'm doing square pumpkins this year.

Any thick skinned fruit or vegetable can be shaped or molded into a form just by placing the immature vegetable (cucumber, pumpkin, watermelon, apple, squash, etc) into a mold, container, form that's a bit smaller than what the mature fruit or vegetable would be.

I recently had seen rectangular cucumber. They're quite cool when sliced up. ~LosAngeles

I have plenty more vegetable jokes Dambrosio. I'm the biggest nerd you'll ever find.. but, I make a good watermelon martini as well so, most people forgive my quirkyness. Cheers, LosAngeles
