It's a media player which when attached to your internet, will stream Netflix, Hulu, Sling TV and many other subscription TV and movie services. Roku of various varieties are considered the "king" of streaming devices. Better than Apple TV, Kodi, Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire Stick, Nvidia Shield. The Rokus have the most channel selection and at least in terms of value, should be considered first (unless you are heavily invested in Apple's iTunes). This of course is highly debatable but I looked online and the first three reviews on Google with all the devices mentioned as keywords, all made Roku the top choice. I welcome comments either for or against that proposition. Personally we use Kodi in a real computer attached to our TV and are happy enough with but for business purposes...
