I joined and stuck with Listia because it was FUN. I had been an ebay seller, and after ebay shut down the system that allowed you to contact and communicate with other members, I found Listia and despite many misgivings I stuck with Listia for more than eight years.

~~~ I KNOW the ink transition ~~~
has NOT been fun.
I'm struggling with it also.
Comment please.
Express your frustrations.
Ask questions. I will answer if I can or try to get answers from the Listia team.
You have been a true Commander of the Listia vessel through all this..If they would have made a 5 minute video for their blog with the charts we have been providing on our listings + how to open a secure XNK account ppl would not be frustrated & seeking guidance from other members so cudos for you as you have done so much to keep members afloat
I saw a listing for 20 forever stamps with INK GIN of 240. Which means buyer is paying $33.64 for $10 worth of postage stamps..seller will probably add a few more stamps + free ship of about $4 at most but who wants to pay almost twice as much for anything especially postage stamps.
auctions like that will frustrate members even more
Yup. You gotta watch your pricing. If you have old credit listings still running you need to do the calculations so they are reasonable. Buyer beware. Many listings right now are mindlessly overpriced.
Honestly this ink thing will change the complexion of Listia. I’m seeing all sorts of sellers completely wasting their time and credits posting grossly overpriced listings because they refuse to simply use a calculator.
I would be embarrassed. But I’ll admit It’s not easy. So I’m giving people a little slack. Sorta. I’ve been adjusting prices on all of my listings since day one. But my tolerance for complete ignorance and laziness is wearing pretty thin. It’s frustrating to browse listings that are such total rip offs.
So one more time:
Credits divided by 3,850 = ink.
Ink is valued at $.14 on Listia.
A reasonable profit that covers the cost of free shipping is fair and will earn you the bids and buyer confidence you need to be able to sell anything. Mindlessly overpriced listings means the end if your selling days on Listia.
And mindlessly ~bidding or buying~ without calculating what you are really paying will rob you of your valuable ink.
AND the value of ink WILL change. So get used to a new era on Listia. It’s not the static stale old credit days any more. Selling online is challenging. It requires some thought and strategy.
The sooner you can change your thinking the better Listia will work for you!
Hi.... If you look at listia's Reward store, it helped in figuring out pricing....
If you have something listed for 322.00 xnk it is worth 45.08 USD.
This is the Value Listia is using....
Take your xnk amount like 80.00 and x (times it by) .14 = 11.27 USD
It helped me in figuring this thing out... Hope this helps you...
It completely helps & we owe you BIG......
The strategy has changed greatly & it is a ground floor opportunity which is very exciting for me personally..However like you said it is work to get set up & until we get used to it but that is OK.. I LOVE cash in the end..lol..
I think Listia was kind of a hobbie & social experience for some so this might be more time than what they want to give & i can't blame them..Credits were simple but if they are doing survey/video/ special offers as opposed to listing then it will be " free" & that is fantastic as you can't do thst on ebay, Etsy, Wish
Here til the bitter end..lol..
Instructions for sending your Ink OUT of Listia.
This has NOTHING to do with using INK on Listia.
Listia's "new currency" links also cover this. Please read them.
☘️
To send INK out of LIstia you need an ether wallet that will take ERC20 tokens.
I recommend MEW. Short for My Ether Wallet. It is free to use.
➜ MEW is a web site only. It does not work on a phone.
FOLLOW all instructions. SAVE your private address and 12-word security code.
When you open the account be SURE to add one of the security layers. I use metamask, a Chrome extension (also works with other browsers but I have no experience with them). There are other options.
➜ When you use Metamask you open it from the symbol on your browser extension list and login that way. Then when you are on the MEW web site, you click on metamask and it automatically logs you in. Be sure to log out of Metamask to protect your account.
➜ Be SURE to add that layer of protection ...
➜ Once you have MEW you THEN "add token." Go to the Ink Protocol page and copy the contract address, paste it into the field on MEW to add the token.
You should see the token on your token list, on the top of the list, with a zero balance. Once the token is set up on your token list you can send INK there.
➜ DON'T send INK there BEFORE you add the INK Protocol TOKEN. Keep in mind Ink is XNK on the ethereum blockchain ... not INK.
➜ Do NOT add a token for a currency called INK ... it is the WRONG token ... you want XNK.
Then go to your INK balance on LIstia. To send you
➜ copy your MEW address. Paste into the address field to send it out of LIstia. It can take MANY HOURS for your XNK tokens to arrive at your MEW ... you can see the transaction as "pending" in your INK balance sheet.
You pay .74 INK for the transaction. This seems subject to change but that is the "gas price" today.
Thanks for the info. The 14 cents truly is confusing. Trades have to stablize and resume here. Then once more partnership comes in to use XNK, then the real value will come out.
What site are we to trade currency on for XNK?
Mar 4th, 2018 at 7:20:37 PM PST by
Original
Idex is the only one. That is part of the problem. Hopefully xnk will be on at least one more soon. I was going to try it today but IDEX went down. It’s very complicated. You have to send both your XNK and some ETH there to fund the gas fee. And you can only trade it for ETH. Not BTC or anything else.
I planned to get set up so I could trade when I’m ready but the chatter really recommends people wait. Not all of the presale buyers have even claimed their tokens yet. It would be tempting to buy more while the price is low but I’m too much of a newbie to attempt day trading!
Hi. I'll start the bid.
I too am disappointed. Very confusing transaction. I checked this morning and some site listed xnk as only .09 value on trade.
I cashed out my points. No one is convinced of the xnk value just yet. I do think on the long run it will be okay but there was a lack of clarification on things. People are leaving or at watching as the dust settles first.
Yes. On Listia ink is valued at 14 cents which is just a bear of a number to work with. Right now ink (XNK) is trading at 9 to 10 cents publicly, but the currency is only four days old. It's complicated but it is a bad time to sell XNK on the exchanges for a variety of reasons. I have a feeling it will go up soon!
I converted all of my credits to ink and I'm being cautious with both buying and selling. As I'm browsing most listings I am seeing are crazy overpriced so please be careful if you bid or GIN. People will get the hang of ink soon and shopping should get easier again.
THIS listing was a bear to set up in $5 increments using ink. I gotta admit it took me hours and it's not perfect. But most other gift cards I'm seeing with gin are crazy overpriced. Clearly people don't understand ink yet. But that's okay. It will be a lot less confusing when all if the credit listings are gone.
I'm trying not to let it make me totally nuts. One listing a day is about all I can make myself deal with.
☺️
Originally Listia had expected the value of ink to be closer to 10 cents. That would be SO much easier to work with. Unfortunately the value of ETH skyrocketed just before the Ink ICO. So ink ended up being valued at this odd 14-cent price. For a normal Crypto currency that wouldn't matter. But because ink is being used as a live currency here on Listia, that not-so-round number has made Listia very difficult for the existing community.
☺️
It will get better. I'm sure of it. Thanks so much for your opening bid!
I have successfully bought things on Listia with XNK, sold things for XNK, withdrawn some XNK from Listia, traded a little bit on IDEX, etc. I am considering doing a small youtube walkthrough, but I don't have experience making videos. I am more than happy to help out anybody, so feel free to drop me a line and maybe lighten the load on natahoa, she has been SO helpful to everybody I'm sure she would like a break from explaining :)
I caution you about inviting PMs ... you'll get a lot of them. I'm asking everyone who PMs me to post their questions on this listing so everyone can share the info. You might want to do the same just so you can get some sleep from time to time.
☺️
In the meantime I encourage EVERYONE to check Mike's listings and post questions there...
The comment thread is not ideal, I gotta admit. So I started a group on Telegram about a month ago but a lot of people on LIstia had trouble getting telegram to work on their computers. I don't have a better suggestion but using these comment threads has been fairly productive.
The Listia team is very responsive on the Ink discussion on telegram but the investors on that discussion consider Listia questions to be FUD, so I try to keep a low profile ... I've only been moderately successful at that. But it's interesting that as more INK investors begin to experiment using Listia, other people on that chat are occasionally using the dreaded "L" word ...
You have NO idea how relieved I am to have you here ... no idea ... I'm celebrating with a cuppa decaf spiked with buttershots ... cheers!
Yea
Yes it is discouraging but keep in mind that a lot of factors are at play. Very little XNK is actually trading hands. That tells me that most investors are not willing to sell XNK. With recent swings in the entire crypto market, all newborn and baby crypto is struggling.
Ink is really a technology. Current market conditions do not reflect the value or potential of the technology. I am not expert enough to be able to explain the mechanics but my advice it to watch and wait and not worry. It's just too soon. I have someone commenting on a different listing and I'll ask him to come here and see if he can't shed some light.
Yes prices aren't consistent because many Listia members aren't pricing correctly in ink. I don't plan to offer Walmart but keep an eye on listings. I think gift card prices will settle down. Gift cards are very popular on Listia. As a buyer please be smart.
I think that soon the ink values will become more second nature. So in the meantime take your ink price and multiply by 14 cents. That is breaking even. You should get more than that as a profit and to cover shipping. I am making a conscious effort to bid on gift cards if only to train my brain in how much I should bid or pay for a $10 or $25 gift card. Those are the easiest types of listings to do that with. But it is mentally exhausting. We have been very spoiled by how consistent and stale Listia has been for such a long time. It has made us lazy in our thinking. Me included.
So Susan has a great point. Some people just aren't interested enough to do that. You can still use Listia casually but if you don't engage with the pricing trends here you risk paying too much as a buyer. Or wasting your time as a seller.
A lot of people use eBay very casually. They sell something once in a while like their used phone. But you can bet they understand how much it should be worth. It is easy because it is dollars. Which we feel comfortable with. I think ink will get easier too!
I agree totally. It is such a lot of work to create listings that I need confidence they will do well. I have several tiered listings running and so far the GiN listings I’ve posted have sold almost immediately because they were priced based on carefully calculated ink values. At a profit for me but not crazy overpriced.
Honestly this is SO new and such a huge sea change. It will settle down quickly I think. After YEARs of looking at a credit price and KNOWING what THAT was worth basically in dollars, the brain resists making the switch. But it will happen.
For the moment the fact that ink on the exchanges is NOT changing in value kinda helps. Once the value of ink starts to go up smart buyers and sellers will have to (happily) base their pricing decisions on Changing ink value.
I wish ink would skyrocket in value just like everyone else. But for the moment count your blessings that ink value isn’t changing day-to-day. Hour by hour. ☺️
At this point I’m encouraging people to get accustomed to doing the calculations. My charts are only guidelines. Probably more useful for buying than for selling. Working with my own listings I still have to calculate to be sure my listings are priced within the realm of reason.
Keep in mind that the value of ink will change. Right now people are complaining that ink is only selling at 9 to 10 cents on the exchanges.
But that isn’t really accurate. Only one exchange has XNK. It’s called IDEX and it’s down half the time. The volume of trading is extremely low. MOST XNK owners are clearly unwilling to sell that low. When more exchanges are available, they volume will go up and reflect a more realistic market price.
So for now it’s best to work with the 14-cent evaluation. I believe xnk will go far higher than that. The timeframe is unknown. Selling on Listia and Earning ink now at a relatively low price will be one way to offset any losses in selling when ink is worth more.
AND will give the ink you own a lot more buying power.
Listia is a ~TOTAL PIONEER ~ in this respect. It is a huge opportunity for all of us who have been using Listia for a long time. But NEW sellers will not be encumbered by old BAD habits in Listia. To be successful on Listia now you MUST change your thinking and strategy.
I hope that helps. Not sure it does but here’s hoping!
Yeah. The free thing is annoying. That’s why we get so many kids and childish adults here. They truly seem to believe you can get stuff for free without putting in any effort. To me earning credits/Ink by doing surveys is crazy. Id rather sell stuff. But that is a very legitimate way to earn credits. It’s not free. It’s work!
For sellers on Listia Free shipping is part of the trade off. It is difficult to collect shipping money from people who want everything free because they have no money. I only take PayPal when people as me to sell something with paid shipping. So paid shipping is particularly difficult on Listia due to the “free stuff” culture.
As a seller you must make enough to cover shipping AND product cost AND enough profit to make the effort worthwhile. Which is very hard work. Everyone who does that for any length of time understands how hard it can be.
I’m excited about ink because it can be used to generate income from selling on Listia other than winning gift cards. The reality has been disappointing but it is still very new. I think ink will come around. It’s just a very bad time for a new crypto currency. No one could have predicted that.
And I hope people aren’t throwing away ink by not paying attention to the price of what they are spending it on. I think they will regret it.
Mar 8th, 2018 at 12:31:38 AM PST by
Yup super if you are selling something worth less than $2. With a minimum cost of first class shipping at close to $3, that doesn’t benefit me in the least.
I’ve still gotta pay a fee to list any GIN item I need to ship. I can’t list any of my items that low Because 19.99 ink is less than the cost of shipping.
I paid GIN fees with credits and I expect to pay them with INK. The credit fee to list a GIN was 50 credits ~ worth almost nothing. (A tenth of a penny). The new gin fee is 1ink which is 14 cents. Or at least five cents if you use market pricing. So that fee is a lot higher than it was.
How much do you have to bid to win $150 gift card
Mar 6th, 2018 at 4:34:26 PM PST by
John John John ... ☺️ ...It made my brain bleed setting up THESE tiers ... honestly I spent hours on it. It's very difficult getting 14 cents to divide into $5 increments with a reasonable profit for this poor old worn out seller.
And it's occurred to me that if I continue the same extended logarithm used in THESE tiers I'm gonna LOSE my shirt ... I have a feeling you are MUCH better at calculus than I am and have already sussed that out and you are TESTING me like my high-school algebra2 teacher ... so I have realized that I will have to take a totally NEW tack and actually increase the $10 tiers by 50-INK increments ... so 870 INK = $110, 940 INK = $120, 995 Ink = $130 etc.
ARGH ... I LOVE INK but right now I'm kinda hating it ...
Maybe it would be best to leave this at $100 and save everyone (i.e. me) a lotta heartburn.
Yeah, I thought about emailing you or PM in Listia, whatever you call it, but when you had said you had more info in your gift cards auctions, well, here I am. I wonder if I could help john at all with the video work or youtube work. I'm not sure what he'd need. I'm guessing is just some kind of screen copier since there is really no actual video of anything other than capturing screen movements showing the correct procedures, step-by-step. Maybe he'll let me know in here, and we'll start something.
Oh, and Nancy, they call you Nancy, right? Well, I tried to friend you in FB, and sent you some messages there, but have not found where to friend at in FB (I don't use FB much at all), and I have received no reply from you to my messages there. Yes, I'm Nancy.
I don't use facebook much at all and I don't connect Listia to it since I never respond to anything on FB. I check my notifications there maybe once every few weeks. I spend so much time on Listia that I don't use other social media much. Normally I only spend an hour or two a day on the computer, but during the last month or six weeks the Listia/INK thing has had me working almost full time on the computer or phone, which actually blinds me and has me concerned. So that's gotta stop too.
Buttershots are butterscotch schnapps ... booze. Once a week wether I need it or not ,,. tastes great in coffee. I bought two bottles before the holidays and am amazed I still have some ...
Yes, it's a lot more in Ink than it was in credits.
Fees in credits were really low and hadn't changed in years.
So it doesn't surprise me. It's frustrating though, I agree with you.
Another thing I don't like is the bidding tiers.
In an effort to engage with something other than comments, I spent some time today bidding on items. Mostly gift cards because they are the easiest to translate into $$$. It was frustrating. For example, if an item is at 55 ink you CAN'T bid 56 ink ... you MUST jump the bid to 60 Ink.
Tonight I sent James a message expressing my concern about the bid increments. I suggested they change this to a .5 bid increment up to 100 Ink ... then make the bid increments larger. This is set up with an automated algorithm, also used on places like ebay, so it's an industry standard of sorts.
But that system is completely under LIstia's control. I think having smaller bid increments will make it easier for people to participate in bidding during all of this confusion.
Unfortunately, for the LIstia/Ink team this is most likely a "little thing" in comparison to the perfect storm happening in the crypto markets. It is a big thing on LIstia though. I have no idea if the LIstia team will engage with this issue in the next few days. I hope they do.
You are SO engaged with buying and selling ... HATS off to you!
Please keep commenting on any functional issues you encounter on Listia.
I'm taking tomorrow off ... my daughter is in town until Saturday and we are spending the day with her. NO Listia. No bidding. No listing. No calculating tiers ... I need the break badly.
In your reply to cbrownfield you mentioned that you "informed James". Is this James Fong one of the cofounders of Listia?
Yes. I can reach him through telegram and he generally responds within a few hours. The Listia/INK team is VERY responsive in that way. Much more so than contacting them through LIstia.
Thanks so much Liza ... I'm glad I can help.
Despite all my sassy comments, for some reason I'm having trouble switching my brain over to thinking in INK. Gotta get the old credit system completely outta my head and it's making my brain fog.
I live on the Chesapeake Bay and this morning we are having tidal flooding higher than during super storm Sandy. No wind/waves though. The homes here are okay but the street is under almost two feet of water. I've got an early dentist appointment and can't even take a shower (septic system is under water).
It's kind of surreal ... brain even foggier than usual ... sheesh.
We are a flat marshy area so the water just spreads out. It doesn't pile up. It is tidal also so you know it will come up and go down. Today I went out for a few hours and came home at LOW tide and it's really really high AND the wind is blowing again. So we have whitecaps and surf action as well as high water.
We are unlikely to get water high enough to damage our house. But our septic is under water so no laundry showers flushing toilets etc. it's inconvenient but not really threatening. The whitecaps are very pretty also!
During the huge winds last weekend the house was literally shaking. It was very weird. surf was really huge and dug up all the marsh mud. So all of my windows are splattered with spray with dried mud now. Second floor included. That's gonna be fun to clean ... Not.
They should NOT post the Market Rate then....There is no need to until it becomes stable enough...
Yup, exactly.
I agree 100 percent.
The only thing the market rate will apply to is if you want to buy Ink from Listia using a credit card. HOWEVER this INK is NOT trade-able. You cannot move that INK outside of LIstia. It is considered "store credit" and is ONLY available to ~use ON~ Listia.
So, even if you COULD buy Ink at 5 or 6 cents, you can't do that on LIstia and sell it elsewhere for more.
I think Listia is wise to simply NOT change that for now. It would make every INK investor shudder ~ even though it is not available to be traded outside of LIstia ~ and could really be kryptonite for Ink.
It is really unfortunate for Ink, what is happening in the crypto market. But it has nothing to do with the intrinsic technology and future potential of Ink.
I also noticed maybe a lot of people dont like XNK it can get confusing at times but sorry to say this listia is running out of options. I know listia worked so hard to try to put an end to it once and for all. Feel bad for the sellers before sold items for a set price and then their credits is worth nothing when they want to spend it. That was not right and very wrong in my opinion. Listia did a great job with this XNK hope its the solution because if their is another legitimate opinion would like to hear it and its not credits that was a big mistake. Anyhow like the switch an whoever dont would really like to hear why it ruin listia because of anything it saved it the only thing that really can not credits. I think the main problem dont know if this is true but people are so use to overcharge people for an item and they know it and now they cant because of XNK. That might be the reason or of the calculations because is their really another reason dont really know of one.
Credits were okay ... everyone who used them understood what they were.
Ink is (will be) better because it should create a more predictable and transparent selling environment.
But if you are bidding/buying right NOW it's important to understand what you are paying. The old credit listings are still getting crazy high bids ... clearly people who are bidding with their old credits don't understand what they are worth in either INK or potential $$$.
But you can't save everyone from themselves. It's hard to watch people overbid on stuff but not much you can do about it. Listia can't do much about it either.
Ugh ... I hope Listia changes it.
I have no idea if they will address these issues.
I hope so. I just adds to the difficult in using Ink.
Thanks Ryan!
hi, your tier levels make sense to me. so many stupid listings. i am using 8.5 xnk per dollar (7.14 xnk per dollar plus little for shipping) on my bids.hope people soon get what listia is trying do. have great day
That's a good number.
71.5 = $10 at 14 cents per INK
... but keep in mind that is a loss for the seller for an item that has to be shipped. With my small items shipping is a minimum of about $3, so I need 21 INK to cover shipping. So for me, a $10 item has to get 99 Ink to break even.
In the past I considered 300,000 credits to be equal to about $3 ~ i.e.the minimum I needed to pay for free shipping. That always made it tough to price low-value items.
With INK those days of inflation should be behind us. I really hope the crypto market settles down, the value of ETH (which is tied to INK) went down again BIG today. It's just really bad luck that this market correction is happening with the newborn INK. Creates even more confusion in pricing/valuation/buyer confidence in INK.
