Description

The listing, Hoover Dam Copper Transmission Cable Souvenir Section! has ended.

This is a 2 inch, and is in beautiful condition, portion of the original Hoover Dam copper transmission cable that brought electricity from the dam to Los Angeles in the late 1930s.
This Solid copper Tube is a section of the original copper, overhead transmission line that carried electricity from Hoover Dam (syn. Boulder Dam) to Los Angeles. The high voltage cable is composed of ten segments to form a smooth copper tube approximately
1.4 inches in diameter.
Note the ingenious "tongue-and-groove" joints between the ten segments. This Type HH Hollow Conductor was made by General Cable during the early 1930s, and was designed to transmit 287,500 volts aross the Mojave Desert.
The cable is hollow because most of the electricity flows through the outer surface (periphery). In addition, the hollow cable drastically reduced the weight burden on transmission towers.

You will be pleased to make this hard to find piece an important addition to your collection or a fine gift for that special collector.

Good luck bidders!!

Any idea what it weighs?

I would say a good 4 ounces. When my son clues me in where the digital scale is, I am going to take a precise measurement. Regular kitchen scale indicates about 4oz.
hope that helps

I most certainly agree, and my greatest admiration for his dad. That a hell of a project and took a lot of guts to work there. Just imagine, that it could be a piece of the dam he might have actually touched... Awesome!
Not to mention IT being here in the middle of the prairie ....
