One of my favorite Tomatoes, the Red Currant is a full flavored tomato that is tangy, sweet, crisp and produces like crazy!

Red Currant is a popular variety of wild tomato, which belongs to the Solanum genus species of tomatoes native to Chile, Ecuador and Peru but it has been naturalized elsewhere, such as in the Galapagos Islands. Its small fruits are edible and delicious. Although it is technically a wild tomato it is commonly grown in gardens across Europe and America as an heirloom tomato.

It is a huge prolific producer, these plants are said to produce by the thousands. Half inch to 3/8" tomatoes grow in large clusters, and it seems the more you harvest the more you get!

Typically, Red Currant Tomatoes are fairly low maintenance and can thus be quite easy to grow, only a basic level of care is required throughout the year to ensure it thrives. Being aware of the basic growing conditions this plant likes (soil, sun and water) in your area will result in a strong and vibrant plant.

Position in a full sun location and remember to water often. Keep in mind when planting that Red Currant is thought of as tender, so remember to wait until your soil is warm and the night time temperature is well above freezing before moving outside. Use USDA Hardiness Zone 3 - 14 as your guideline for the appropriate climate for this plant.
