HISTORY: The 1944 - 1946 Lincoln cents are the "shell case" coins that were made with copper that was recovered from used shell cases on battleships and battlefields around the world. The shell cases were shipped back to the U.S. where they were melted and made into Pennies. The shell case Lincoln Pennies have the classic "wheat ears" reverse design.
