It is authentic and it does look like someone at some point cleaned it with something to make it very shiny.

Hi BB: Thanks for responding so quickly to my question. Even though it appears to have been polished at some point in time, I am leaving my coin collection to one of my grandson's, and I have teen grandsons, but my 6 year old is the only one to have shown interest in them.
