This listing is for ONE LIVE START of my hardy hibiscus. The first picture shows you what the blooming plant looks like. The second picture shows you the starts from where I will lift your shoot.
You can now enjoy these gorgeous flowers in your northern home. They grow zone 4 - 9, although I have heard that they will be hardy to zone 3 if they are heavily mulched.
The description of them at Direct Gardening -- from where we originally purchased the starts five years ago -- says the following about them:
'Huge, exotic flowers up to 8" across. Blooms mid summer to frost with up to 50 flowers on a single plant. Easy to grow, needs little care. Full foliage shrub-like plants 4-8' tall. Plant 2-3' apart in full to partial sun. Deer resistant.'
The colors we have are a pinky white, very similar to the above photograph. Hibiscus will die down in the winter. Remove the woody stalks and wait for it to shoot again in the spring. They will come back larger and larger each year. The blooms only last a day, but they do bloom very prolifically. A tea can be made from the flowers, which is slightly sweet, and rather berry tasting.
The winning bidder will receive one good, strong start from the shoots illustrated in photo number two. Shipping is free to the US, but this is the last chance for free shipping on my plant starts. The postage has been averaging between $3 and $6 for every start I send, and it is getting expensive. Thanks for understanding!
