Yeah they hold mine occasionally. I can't tell why they do it and why they don't.

After the exchange I just had the last 24 hours with one of the gift card seller I just want to say thank you for being one of the honest Seller’s on here !! They are still charging double the face value on those gift cards and I do know that they are one of the reasons that Listia did this to begin with because of the insane prices they charged for those cards ! Have a great day still waiting on my funds to be released lol

Your welcome, thanks for appreciating that. Yeah, my markup is 22%, which itself might seem a little unfair and that fluctuates according to what the floating rate of XNK is and how fast I update my prices and how lazy I feel. That also includes fees I pay for turning XNK into dollars when I can do that, but doesn't include the 10% that goes to Listia for the GIN fees, so including that, my markup is around 35% when I reset my prices periodically according to the market rate of XNK.

Rick from Pawn Stars on cable TV charges 100% markup on his items and says that the way to make money but when you listen to him bargain, he's talking about how he can sell things for 50% more. Some of his stuff probably sits on the shelf for years, which probably is a big overhead cost producer (things need space, periodic cleaning, periodic inventorying, experts who know about them etc. - all of which costs money). Gift cards certainly sell more quickly than that have almost no overhead, so doubling the value is a little crazy. Supermarkets of course only have a margin have 1.5%, but that's after the overhead.

It's hard to know how much to charge for overhead and profit, but double the price of a gift card does seem ridiculous and I wonder often, who's buying them, if anybody. It doesn't seem like a good business plan.

Right and I expect Seller’s to make something for themselves . I have done the auction scene for years ! Not so much on this site but I do eBay and FB and I myself ran a pawn shop for 5 years about 20 years ago . I also ran a physical local auction house . I am disabled now and only do it for the extra cash . They may be selling those cards for now but after everyone catches on I do think that will slow down for them . Yes I expect to pay in Listia funds more than face value of the card because the seller does have to make something for it and their time but charging double the face value of the card is just robbing people and most that are buying them have no idea how Listia is working now or just don’t care what they are spending on them .

Cool. That's real interesting that you ran a pawn shop. That must be one of the hardest if not the hardest kind of retail business to run!

I could change in my XNK and turn around and buy a card for it’s face value !

Yes retail markup is at least 50% but those are gift cards not items

I always used Listia for the items I couldn’t sell on eBay but that doesn’t work so well now

Yeah, there seem to be a bigger volume when credits were the currency, but I think the volume and interest is coming back. Also I may be wrong, but I've seen a flood of users who I didn't know before with thousands of ratings. I figured they were active before I became really active and only came back because of the promise of the XNK as a cryptocurrency. I'm seeing some strength now in the value of XNK. The floating value I think at one point dipped below $0.03, but now it's at around $0.06. However within the last wee or two, IDEX, the marketplace where you could trade XNK for Ethereum, has shut down trading because the volume quadrupled and their infrastructure couldn't handle it. They are working on fixing it. The other exchange that handles XNK, ForkedDelta doesn't have a lot of users, so trading is slow.

Yes it was !! And you do loose a lot when things sit and they don’t sell . Really the only big profit from it is when people don’t pick up there stuff and have to pay extra . This is a fairly small town so we don’t really get the type of items they do on pawn stars but that’s one of my favorite shows . We had the pawn shop and the auction house in the same building so we were able to get rid of stuff thru auction if it sat for too long

It sounds like a lot of fun, if you could put up with the rough characters which would be the issue I would have.

I was oblivious to the whole marketplace of the XNK , INK ect until Listia did this lol

Yeah, cryptocurrency is really amazing. There must be like a trillion dollars floating around in it. It's the wild west. It has great potential but sometimes when the prices keep going down, you worry that it will all go away, but ETH and XNK have now rebounded in a big way, so Listia must now think they are on track.

Yes I had a partner who dealt with that part . I mainly did the jewelry end of it . Bought and sold scrap gold and diamonds

We owned it tho when gold was at its lowest and really what became its demise in the end

So the low price of gold killed the business? You mean you had a lot of gold purchased at $1900 and went it went down to $1250 it killed it? That's exactly the kind of thing that happens with cryptocurrency except it happens over a few weeks instead of a couple of years.

Right when we started golf was at a pretty good price and that was our main inventory and trade was gold jewelry . People getting divorced or selling grandma’s gold she left them and it plummeted and we had so much money into what we had bought or people lost on pawn and then couldn’t get our money back out of it . It wasn’t a couple of years after it then went to it’s all time high lol

Sounds heartbreaking. Crypto's breaking hearts much quicker, however maybe it will eventually become more stable some day.

Plus you loose when you take in stolen stuff and the police just come and confiscate it and you get nothing !!
May 6th, 2018 at 8:47:34 AM PDT by

Holy cow, that's bad! They don't give you your money back either I'm sure. If they confiscate any cash they keep it to run their departments I'm sure.

The other big thing we did was antiques and they also plummeted in their worth
May 6th, 2018 at 8:49:11 AM PDT by
Original
I didn't know that. So when the economy was bad and gold was up, antiques were also up? That's surprising.

Yes you do get to help catch the thief because you have hopefully their correct ID but that the only satisfaction . We always hated seeing the sheriff’s car pull up to the shop lol yes after 911 was when all that started to go down

Antiques never made a comeback to where it once was either
