Description

The listing, 2 Prs of Studs & Sm Pendant - 1 Diamond & 1 Amethyst Pr - Gold Settings - Free US and CA Shipping has ended.

This pair of diamond studs maybe suitable for teenager or child. I tested them with a diamond tester and they test true. I think they are either 1/8 carat or 3/16th. I had 1/4 carat ones and these are a little smaller.

The diamond studs and the diamond pendant were won at this Listia auction: http://www.listia.com/auction/141055. The diamond on the pendant is actually very small. It's at the center of a reflecting shield of metal such that it is simulating a larger diamond

The amethyst studs were purchased by me much earlier. I think all of the settings are gold. I think the amethyst are 1/2 carat each.

Free US and Canada shipping. As per usual if you can show me that it's OK to import jewelry of some value into your country without an import license, then it's free International shipping too.

The 2nd image is the amethysts. The image almost didn't pick it up but they are light purple like typical amethyst. The photo only barely hints it.

Thanks, these might go cheap because they are described as for kids...I still think this lot would retail for at least $50.

You know, I'm going to change this description a bit, the second pair of studs were supposed to be birthstones for one of my nieces. It would have been the birth stone for May, June or November.

They are not dark green, so they are not emeralds and they are not yellow or clear even though the photo seems to show they are clear, so they are not citrines or Topaz.

Actually these stones change color from light green to light purple. Thus I think the 2nd pair is actually Alexandrite, the birthstone for June. Sorry about the confusion.

If I had a refractometer which you can buy for $100, then I would know for sure.

OK I looked, the cheapest 1/8 carat diamond studs are $49 from Kohl's. The cheapest gold Alexandrite gold studs are also $49. These were good quality items when I bought them for my nieces, so I think it's real gold.

I put real diamond in the search field and these did not come up, so here I'm going to put it in capitol letters and hope it will be picked. THESE ARE REAL DIAMONDS!.

Are you sure that the 2nd set aren't mystic fire topazes?

No I'm not sure They are kind of light greenish blue in my shaded natural light now. I turned on the fluorescent lights and they became slightly m9ore greenish but not by much. I don't think they are emeralds because they are not dark enough and there is a bluish tinge. I could be wrong I suppose.

I'm not sure because I don't have a jewelers refractometer :-(.

OK I made a page which hopefully gives a better idea. I guess they could be either mystic fire topaz, alexandrite or emeralds. like I said they are birth stones from May, June or November.

Here is the page:
http://www.socrtwo.info/studs.html

I did spend quite a bit of money on these studs so I think they are good items. I think I spent maybe $30 about 10 years ago.

OK, I found the invoice and scanned it adding it to the bottom of this web page mentioned before: http://www.socrtwo.info/studs.html

So $23 is a little bit of an exaggeration from $30. I found an inflation calculator here: http://www.dollartimes.com/calculators/inflation.htm which suggests that $23 in 2001 is worth $28.54 in 2010 dollars, so again a little bit of an overestimation, sorry...

The invoice unfortunately doesn't tell what kind of stones they are just that they were stones for May Jun and November.

I did go in my stash and found Citrin ones for another niece. So the Citrine ones are clearly the birthstones for November and thus the mystery ones are for either May or June. You can have the Citrine ones instead of the blue green ones if you would like. I posted a scan of the citrine ones to the web page too.

OK I also rescanned with the white background from the presentation box. The scan didn't come out much better and still fails to show the green suggesting the scanner's fluorescent lamp is turning the stone bluish. Color changing is supposed to be a feature of Alexandrite, but again I could be wrong as the stone are pretty greenish though rather lightly so, in natural light.

I will include with the lot, the presentation box from the citrine studs. Its a very nice white leather covered box. Very presentable.

HOLD THE PRESSES. I'm really sorry but I printed out a sizing chart and the diamonds are only 2.4 mm wide which means they are only 1/20 carat not 1/8. I also remembered I had a jewelry measuring tool and I giot the same measure ment. Also the 2nd studs are 4.1mm wide which if they were diamonds would mean they are only 0.25 carats not 0.5.

I'm really sorry about the mistake. I can throw in the citrine earrings too or you can file a complaint and get your credits back for false advertising. It's up to you.

Apparently the carat weight goes very rapidly up with larger stones, so a stone twice as wide across appears to weigh 4 times as much. It apparently goes the other way too, so a stone half the size is 1/4 the weight. I didn't know this.

Sorry about all this posting I'm really going to have to shut up. The carat total weight, ctw or even cttw. of these studs appears to be 0.10. With gold fittings the cheapest I could find is even more than the $50 I mentioned before from Kohl's. The cheapest I could find are $67.

So maybe this is still a $100 lot.
