Questions & Comments
I came over to peek at Stacey's auctions and then read this and then turned around and looked behind me at my living room, lol. I think I'll devote this next week to a really serious organizing and maybe trying to get out of the apt for awhile :)
I don't wear a lot of jewelry besides 2 rings that I never take off, mostly because of my arthritis in my fingers; it makes it too hard to take rings on and off. And I love earrings. But I have started wearing a few bracelets. And the coloring of this goes well with the coloring of my Black Hills gold watch.
Between buying stuff and destroying their homes, most hoarders eventually run out of money, I think. One lady was living in a house that her goats had eaten holes in, and I think she was in Wisconsin or some other really cold place. Hadn't had heat for two years. Can you imagine?
Oh yeah, on one of the hoarders shows the couple had bought at least two houses, filled one and abandoned it and moved into the other, then filled that. They finally ran out of money and got foreclosed on one of them, I think, which is what got them to try to fix the problem.
Another lady rents like 1o BIG storage units. On the show they got her house substantially cleaned out, but didn't happen to mention if she just rented another storage unit for all the stuff, which is my guess!
I am truly going to do the picture thing. It's one reason I wanted your flat display pieces, lol. You and Stacey amaze me. I adore your work and mine just pales in comparison, but I will show it. You 2 just inspire me to improve.
I don't have TV. I mean, I do have A tv, just don't have cable (I'm a movie fanatic). Took it out 5 years ago because I was sooo sick of the media and their BS. But I have seen the Hoarder show once when I was staying at a motel. It was just recently, in fact, lol.
I do have to admit, it sort of made me feel several things: shock, pity, and yet I could see how the non-hoarding members of the family felt. Then I had this little niggling part of my brain saying, "Hey, dummy, stop collecting things." LOL
No, I have a LONG way to go, but still, that's scary. Someone close to me has a mother and sisters who hoarded themselves right out of their own house and then rented another place to live. That is incredible to me. To OWN your own home and do that is almost unfathomable to me.
You should do the photobucket thing too. Doesn't cost anything and would let you share your photos with family members, friends or people on Listia. If you ever decide to sell jewelry, you could also send interested people there to see your designs.
ACtually, I DO have a photobucket account. I just do not use it. I do save pictures of other stuff I have made and am wearing. I just have not ever posted them to my photobucket. I guess I have not had time. ....Time, time time is tic tick ticking away all day long.
Y'know, I'm taking photos of all the stuff I'm making. Planning to give most of it away as gifts, but might list a few. But that is a GREAT way to remember the fun I had making stuff, even though I'll never wear most of it. I should list a few here ... check out my new stuff at http://s247.photobucket.com/albums/gg146/natahoa/Jewelry/
Oh sweet, that must be a very pretty necklace, probably looks great on you with the soft rich pink. I still liked the photo you had of you and Arbon, it was really nice. You should switch back to that from time to time. I love photos of the real people!
Thanks, I made this for a gift for someone but I absolutely LOVE this dangle so I figured I can look at it and admire it anyways. I will switch back to our picture later.
Yup, materialism can really weigh you down. I watched the "Hoarders" one-year-after show yesterday. One one, the 22-year--old boy, had really recovered. It really is a form of insanity, and probably one of the most destructive. I believe we come into our lives with specific goals to evolve spiritually toward unconditional love, and it makes me wonder why these kinds of people have so much emotional pain that they bury themselves in trash to discourage human contact. I know that is not your belief, but for me it answers a lot of the "why do bad things happen to good people" types of questions.
Yup, the hoarders show kinda scares me. I don't hang onto very much stuff for emotional reasons, but every time I watch it I think about all the stuff I DO have from years ago and start to itch, sorta like watching someone get attacked my mosquitoes ... In the past year I've finally gotten rid of all of my grandmother's old furniture, which I never really liked but let it take up space in my previous, small house for 23 years. I don't miss it atall.
When we retire we will move to our second home, which is already furnished and about a quarter the size of the house I'm in now. It's all gotta go, somewhere ... can't take it with me, either to that house or to the next life LOL!
AMEN, I am trying to learn that attitude. I hang on to things but not as much as I did before I married Arbon,. He is the minimilast that has taught me to let go of some things.
You see a lot of hoarders at auctions ... wonder where on earth they put all that stuff ... it's piled high somewhere on their property. I actually met a lady who gets regular visits from the guys in Iowa from that show called American Pickers. They love hoarders!
I have seen extreme hoarders in those shows where they become afraid to leave the house and they end up dying in the middle of all their stuff... very sad
Oh yeah, they're called hoarders. Terribly sad. I know a lady who is a hoarder, but didn't realize it at the time I was friendly with her. She was totally out of control.
LOL ... well, I don't usually buy his stuff. The folks at this auction house are really smart cookies. One of the owners puts a lot of things on ebay, and the other owns a huge antique mall called Collectamania. It's fun to dabble in junk and stuff!
I had a friend in High School, whose mom did that. She went to yard sales and bought so much stuff it filled the house and sometimes she would take it to flea markets and sell stuff, but it really started to take over her house in a crazy way
I'm not much of a yard saler, I get my jollies at the weekly auction. A guy I know buys stuff at yard sales and brings it to the auction. He's really good at it, makes a small fortune some weeks!
