If you are wanting to attract hummingbirds, Trumpet Vine and Rose of Sharon are an easy way to go.

20 Trumpet vines seeds. These are the one with orange trumpets.

Trumpet vines thrive in the heat, showing off dark green leaves and as many as 12 orange trumpets blooming from one stem.

These trumpet vines will climb on anything. I've allowed one to climb more than 30' up a tree, but most I've cut back as shrubs. I like to see the cascade of the branches and blooms.

are these self grown? do they have thorns? and what family are they from?

Okay, it looks like it is Bignoniaceae campsis radicans. It's hard to tell from the photos, but the trumpet flowers are right.

These come from my yard if that's what you mean by self grown. There are no thorns. I'll have to research family possibilities. I've had them in my yard for more than 23 years and didn't plant them originally.
