re: Shipping & Handling

due to concerns with S&H options posted earlier, I've changed the US Shipping Option to "Exact Shipping". At the end of this auction, the winner will have to provide me with what shipping service they prefer the most, & paypal me the cost of shipping. I recall Listia.com highly suggests any payment exchange done with paypal.

Proper packaging is a concern of mine. I will do my best package the item securely, so hopefully, nothing bad happens.

(FYI: USPS, UPS, & FedEx have all been caught on tape for mishandling packages. source, News & Internet Videos. It remains to be seen if DHL does the same too.)
**edit-end**

Tracking Number provided to winner of auction for reference.
Item will not come in original box.

More misc information on the item:
Product Type Video Cassette Player

Connector Type 1 x USB ( 4 pin USB Type B ) - front 1 x composite video/audio input ( RCA phono x 2 ) - front Composite video/audio output ( RCA phono x 2 )

I've originally purchased the item in new condition; a couple year ago. reference, photos for exterior condition of the item.

You misunderstand. I am not criticizing. I'm sorry if it came across that way.

Media Mail (which is sometimes cheaper than First Class or Priority) is only for... well, media - e.g. video tapes, books, records, CDs, DVDs, etc. Magazines with advertising are not allowed to be shipped Media, nor are video games (for some reason). Routinely, from what I understand, the USPS does inspect packages sent Media Mail to ensure that the are indeed a form of media. For an item like this to be shipped through USPS, it would have to be shipped either Priority or Parcel Post. Parcel Post will be the cheapest for an item this large that weighs 13 pounds.

according to one article i read: (yes, i did look into sending electronics via USPS) they mentioned VHS Tapes were best delivered via Media Mail & items 70lbs and below.
[/quote]

The problem with that is that this is not a VHS TAPE, it is a VHS PLAYER.

These two links may explain it better than I can:

https://www.usps.com/send/media-mail.htm
... and
http://reviews.ebay.com/SHIPPING-TIPS-ON-USPS-MEDIA-MAIL?ugid=10000000001355578

I wasn't complaining about the cost, either. That is a fair price for an item this heavy. From what I looked up, shipping a 13 pound package Parcel Post from your zipcode to mine (35143) would be about $18.

sincerely, thanks. Thank you for the input.

I've in past auctions, spent a little much on the shipping & handling. I close to newbie status in comparison to your experience. It was my bad because I used key words like VHS & USPS shipping, and was directed to eHow ...I did read, just one article before coming. My fault was that I didn't spend more time to looked into the subject a little more.

I'm guilty for paying more than what's owed at USPS. I personally go to Post Master, and ship them all out, S&H gets overwhelming. lol

With Listian packages, I forget my manners also; when I don't include a message in the shipping container with the item. I noticed other auctioneers practice that. from items i received.

I don't think once have I ever sent a note with my packages. Being a guy, cutesy notes just aren't my style ;-) My girlfriend, however, does plaster my packages with cartoon stickers before they go out! She does the same with my bills, too - you can imagine their faces when they receive my payments! :-D

If you do a lot of shipping, you might want to check out stamps.com. They have a basic plan (you have to ask for it specifically) for $10 a month and you can print postage from home. From my experience, the price that you pay through stamps.com is cheaper than you pay at the post office.

Good luck and I'm definitely watching this!

You mentioned Media Mail shipping... you aren't going to try to ship this Media Mail are you? I'd really like to bid, but I would hate to see this get tied up or returned if it were to get inspected - which they do do!

Hello. i don't understand your concern.

The auction is for shipments within the US only. Local pick up is welcomed. I was under the understanding that items sent outside of the US are subject to inspection. Experienced it with eBay when I had a CPU sent from Canada to California. Other than that, I don't believe that within the US, parcels are checked. I can be wrong. you're welcome to correct me at anytime.

the reason that i choose USPS Media Mail option, was after reading an eHow article on how to properly send VHS items via USPS. If you disagree, please explain. and give me alternatives. Its easy to criticize in your comment, however you didn't provide any solutions.

I'm open to them. May I ask how would you send an item like this via USPS? what type of service would you select?

the item is 13 pounds and has similar dimensions of a regular VHS player

according to one article i read: (yes, i did look into sending electronics via USPS) they mentioned VHS Tapes were best delivered via Media Mail & items 70lbs and below.

Honestly, I don't know what the issue is because $15 would be less than the exact shipping rate. If it makes things easier for this auction, sure; I'll require the exact shipping rate be paypal-ed to me.

Like mentioned in the items original post:
"Tracking Number provided to winner of auction for reference.
Item will not come in original box."

if you choose not to bid on the item i understand. Not a problem, i understand.

Are you sure this does Hi-8 tapes? Hi-8 is a different format than VHS or the smaller VHS-C cassettes.

According to the description on Amazon for the same product, it only does VHS and VHS-C (if you have the adapter), but not Hi-8.

hello :) yes it does convert Hi-8 and VHS-C tapes via RCA connection into the device from a camcorder or playback deck. Options include: Tape mode or Other mode.

in my experience with the item, I've used my Hi-8 camcorder plugged it into the device's RCA input and was able to capture the video. via software provided by ION brand, also most up to date software is available via ION's site.

In the case of VHS-C, I recall there's an adapter that makes the tape like a VHS mode. it can read that too. Great question.

This can`t be shipped Media mail.Media mail is for tapes movies, magazines, books and media mail never cost over 3.00 to ship before you add the insurance and tracking if you add this.I been selling on line for over 10 years and I keep up with the post office and how the way they ship things out. This can be ship Priority Mail, First Class Mail @Parcel or Package Service Parcel.
Just trying to help here.Which this probably would fit in a Medium Flat Rate Box which the size of the box is 13 5/8" by 11 7/8" by 3 3/8" it cost $10.70 to ship out .Unless this weights over 70 lbs then the cost will be more. Then with tracking and Insurance on this type of item going out .For me it would cost me $13.50
Just also giving you another opinion in how to send. But since this isn`t a media item I doubt the Post Office will let you send it Media mail.
I am watching by the way
