Questions & Comments
Do you know why this is a tough Date Dime to find?
Coin production figures indicate 78.50 million 2009-P Roosevelt Dimes and 41.50 million 2009-D Roosevelt Dimes have been produced. The Denver mintage represents the lowest mintage since the 1958 Roosevelt Dime which had a mintage of 31.91 million. 2008’s production figures were 413.00 million and 637.50 million for Philadelphia and Denver, respectively.
They stopped because when the recession hit in 2009 a lot of people were turning in their change and the need for nickels and dimes was drastically less than expected. Likewise the other coins had reduced mintage as well and that is why the 2009 sets are worth so much more. Although this coin is only worth 10 cents today. in the next 50 years its value will increase because it will be on of the few out of a set that will not already be in collector's hands especially as the 2009 that did make circulated are pulled out in 20 years.
Also 2009 is the only non-silver Roosevelt Dime allowed to be listed on this site per Listia rules: Coins that are currently in circulation are not allowed. More specifically, the only coins allowed on Listia are:
penny - older than 1959, 2009 nickel - older than 1961, 2009 dime - older than 1965, 2009
I did not know that. I usually deal only in foriegn coins. And I know for a fact that foriegn coins in circulation are listed here. Thanks for the info
