The Spanish missions of California were a source of inspiration for the artisans of the early 20th century who helped pioneer American arts and crafts movement. Like other designs that evolved during that period, their mission-style furnishings placed heavy emphasis on simplicity, quality, function and harmony with nature. The Mission Chime was created in keeping with these themes and is tuned to the mysterious tones often found in the melodies of both the sacred and the secular music that was brought to North America by the Franciscan padres.
