Hello all :) I believe they would be described officially as "feature phones". They have web-browsing capability, and e-mail I think, but you pay as you go for browsing time, or maybe pay a monthly fee for web usage, not completely sure. Anyhow, any Web or internet use is charged in addition to your regular minutes plan. Last I knew, you could use your own phone and get a pay as you go plan, and these phones would work for that, if Verizon still lets folks do that. They have gotten pricier and limited options for their plans lately, so I would recommend checking into whether you can put them on a pay plan.Well shoot, I will call Verizon and ask :)

Well...here's the skinny: you could activate them on verizon, and it would just be a month to month plan with no contract, just whatever "nationwide minutes" deal they have going that fits your needs. They also have some variety of "pre-pay" plans, which can be tailored to your needs; evidently certain days of the week, a number of minutes per day, or other options are available, depending. These phones may not be compatible with those plans, they would have to "test" them, according to "Eric". They have a pre-pay department that I did not feel like talking to.

Anyhow, back to "post-pay" (month-to-month) feature phones--the only reason to have a contract with Verizon is if you get a discount on a new phone or extend your contract with an upgrade or other service options. I believe these phones can also be unlocked with certain software and specialized knowledge, so they can be used on Cricket, or oh, Cingular I think too, if it is CDMA. These Razrs have no sim card, and cannot be used on At&t or T-mobile. Sprint, come to think of it, is also Cdma, I think, but don't quote me. For the technically minded, these are the newer Razr phones that have no "Master Reset" or "Initial Setup" menu under "Settings", Yet another way for Verizon to limit handy options the phone was designed with but they prefer you not using. #$&^#&*&#@^ Verizon...This software change may limit the ability to "unlock" these particular phones for use with other carriers but I am not sure. However, if this is your plan, you have the software and know-how to do so, and are more prepared for these questions than I. BTW, they both come with a battery (duh) ;) and there is one case for them I won't be needing which will also convey. If you have an existing contract (feature phone) with verizon, you could activate these instead, if you so chose. To sum up: Carrier: Verizon. Feature phones. No contract needed if activated on a new account with Big Red. Oh, and a case I may get a pic of and upload that I forgot to mention.
