This was an awesome project to do with my sons. They put them in water and the next morning we had superball size "plant food orbs" all over the kitchen counter!! They sure do swell up and they last a really long time!! The best plant I ever had!!

I had something like this a few years ago, they were little beads tho. But it sure was fun to watch the roots grow thru the beads. Do these eventually melt away and you have add more of them? That was how the other ones were. This sounds fun!!

Actually.....I checked this out before purchasing them..Here is a QUOTE from the website. "The magical hi-tech product - Crystal Soil is a new type soil-less cultivating material. It is developed from super water-absorbent colophony for farming and forestry industry, and it is a water, nutrition and microelements preserving super water-absorbent carrier. The crystals soil can absorb water of up to 50-100 times their weight in several hours, and are able to release water gradually to supply the planting requirement.Applying to diverse indoor plants, the plants will be safe and sound without irrigation even for over one month. In addition, it contains fertilizing components like nitrogen, phosphor, potassium and other microelements, supplying plants' growing nutrition for several months."
so, they actually do have "food" in them.
Thats the cool part about them! It gave my kids a reason to "investigate" the beads before we put them in water. I wanted them to learn what the beads could do and WHAT they were actually invented for originally.
