Description

The listing, CALLIGRAPHY GROUPING (antique) 34 Nibs, some SILVER PLATED has ended.

Though I'm certainly no expert on calligraphy,
some of the markings on these antique nibs are Wm Mitchell, Hunt, J.L Issacs & Co, Silver Plated, England. and Imperial, USA, Resterbrook & Company among others.

Not sure if the goldtoned nibs are brass or bronze, or possibly gold plated. Maybe an expert here on Listia can enlighten us......

Bought in antique shop, comes with original cardboard sliding box, there's about 34 nibs if I counted right....lol

I believe there's a difference between antique and vintage. 1800's vs 1900's?

Ok, I've received an email with info on these nibs..... these nibs go on wooden pen handles which means they are antique because the newer vintage pens are metal.

More info on the nibs. The more I looked at those gold nibs the more they looked like real gold yet they weren't marked like the silver plated ones so I did some research and found that sometimes the calligraphers of old would have their nibs redipped in real gold so I'm figuring this may be what they did to these gold nibs here.

I just looked and there are 4 of the wider nibs that draw five lines and they are the ones that look to be redipped in gold. There may be more of the gold tone single line nibs that have been dipped but are tarnished so can't be sure. This not counting all the marked silver plate of course. Quite the interesting collection.....

Samantha, That always happens to me too! I could suggest doing surveys or some of their offers. Sometimes the surveys are ok and one can accumulate credits that way, on average about a thousand per day but other times the surveys are closed, so it's a crapshoot....I've fanned you and also hope you'll fan me back, thanks!
