You have to bid higher than the last person's highest bid, which isn't shown. The shown bid is just 1 more than the last highest bid. So if the bid starts at 100 & person A bids 200, the high bid is shown as 101. If Person B bids 105, then Person B is outbid and the high bid is then shown as 105. Until person B's bid higher than person A's bid (200) you're automatically outbid. When B bids 210, Person A is outbid. It's confusing at first because you think someone is instantly bidding after you, which is what I thought. They do it this way to let you bid less. You bid you're highest then dont have to keep bidding in small increments. Also, when you win an auction, the highest you bid may be higher than you win it for. Let's say an auction is at 555. You don't know what the high bid is, just that the last high bid was 554. So if you bid 700 and win, if the high bid before yours was 600, you win the auction for 601. I hope that made sense!
