Description

The listing, 1892 Letter, 1905 Bank Check, 1882 Postal Card, GIN for 2,000! has ended.

I dropped the GIN to 2,000 credits!

The letter is in fantastic shape for being 140 years old! There is a section of the letter where the writer states that someone died from "consumption". I looked it up and found out that back in those days, consumption means T.B. (see below for full details)

Writer also states that a severe pain in head and soaked it with kerosene oil. I looked that up too, but could not find information, but it might not be "head" and I could be misreading it. I took a close up of both sections so you can read it for yourself (see last two photos). Note: tear on left side of envelope.

Comments please!

1905 Crocker National Bank check:
See photos for the stamped information on the backside of the check. Also notice there is a triangular hole punch through the paper. All the checks I have are like this, so I am guessing this was on purpose and part of the banks processing.

The 1882 postal card has wear and fold marks. I also took many photos so bidders can see condition of all four items.

Consumption is an old name for tuberculosis (TB) that describes how the illness wastes away or consumes its victims. TB is "an ancient enemy" that has plagued humankind for more than five thousand years.

It appears that a lot of letters written in the late 1800's, are on this type of paper, same format, folded written on the front, inside, and back, like a book and in cursive, ah the good ole days, LOL.

GIN (GET IT NOW) for 2,000 credits!

Sue

How interesting, the only thing I could find online regarding kerosene was that it was good for getting rid of head lice. Thanks Pop!!!!
