Essence Feed offers an expensive way to push out some chump blockers or Eldrazi acceleration while providing the caster with a six point life swing. If you're lacking on Emrakul's Hatchers, Kozilek's Predators, or Nest Invaders to try and push out your Hand of Emrakul or Ulamog's Crusher, Essence Feed can help get the job done.

It's not uncommon in a Rise of the Eldrazi game to run out of gas after you've got your opponent on the ropes, early beats with a Null Champion or Skywatcher Adept sputter out but leave your quarry crippled clinging to a few precious points of life. Essence Feed can be a mid/late game solution to finishing up a weakened foe.

Essence Feed is definitely a little bit on the steep side of the mana curve weighing in at six, but it provides a good bit of utility in your Rise of the Eldrazi draft or sealed deck, and can be picked up late and used when you can't get your hands on something better.
