I know when I was first looking for smart phones I couldn't afford the $300 plans or the $100 androids, hopefully this will come in handy as much for you as it did for me!

Does it take a SIM card? And can it be used on another carrier other than Virgin Mobile?

This phone does not have a SIM card. It CAN be unlocked to use with any provider however you do have to install .dll files specific to the provider which you will be using. If you do switch providers I suggest getting one of their tech representatives to email you the files and a link to a video walk through on the process. Youtube does offer some videos however these are mostly done by freelancers and kids with too much time on their hands. :)

we used straight talk service. which you can get at walmart or online. we usually got the $45 card which is unlimited for a month.but they do have other options for card amounts
