Description

The listing, A Manual for China Painters 1897 Mrs. Nicola Monachesi has ended.

A Manual for China Painters being a practical and comprehensive treatise on the art of painting china and glass with mineral colors. by Mrs. Nicola di Rienzi.

I believe this is the first edition published by Lee and Shepard in 1897.

Gray cloth with design of blue willow pattern on front and back of cover. Small label on inside of front cover showing original price of $2.00. Pp 286 plus 5 plates of china paint samples. Each plate contains 26-27 different colors. Illustrated throughout with numerous wood engravings. Still to this day, this represents a handy, comprehensive and attractive manual on the complete art of china painting and, in addition, is valued for the historic paint samples.

This book is in pretty poor shape, the spine is gone and the cover is ratty and some pages are falling out. But, this book is a wealth of information if this is your hobby. It has obviously had many owners over the last 114 years that got good use of it.

This is a fantastic book! During that time period i have read that alot of women or younger girls where taught to paint china in their art classes or directly given other artistic tasks to do! Not sure the exact time period but Georgia OKeefe was allowed in school to paint freely what she wanted while others had to do such things as painting china! I believe this was mentioned in the book i have read about her! I thought it was very interesting this is from the same time period as she was creating her works of art! This is certainly a treasure! Even with its wear and tear! Thank you for sharing this with everyone!

Yes i will bid. I have a very small treasured collection of books, i wish to one day pass down to my kids! And this one is especially interesting to me because im an art student and i love art instruction of all kinds! Most of my older books are usually poetry, but i really like this one!
