Kitt was a Mustang!!! Looks nothing like him. This must have been the concept of Kitt before they decided on the Mustang.

the original Knight Ryder was a Trans Am not a Mustang. This is from the movie after knight Ryder went off the air..

Actually, In Classic Knight Rider, KITT was a Trans Am, in Knight Rider 2000, he's supposed to be a 2000 Pontiac Banshee. In the new Knight Rider series, he's an '08 Shelby Mustang GT500KR. Yeah, I'm a Knight Rider nerd.
