Yea, what jeremydonell said... There are a few different types of firmware u can download to further customize ur device . Just gotta do a little research .

oh and you just go to pandigital.com to download the firmware from them to convert it to a tablet.

I have one of these. I love it. it is new ish( 2010-2011) and the only real problem i face is it does not have flash( you can convert this ereader to a tablet) and download apps like any other tablets, only you can not download a flash app so no youtube on it.
BUt I love mine- so much better then any kindle

The external sd card slot is just a more convenient way to increase memory capacity without having to go through the hassle of takin the back compartment off just to get to the micro sd card on the inside of the back of the device.
