Description

The listing, Confederate States Civil War $30 Coupon for $1000 Bond 1869 CSA has ended.

Up for bids is this Confederate War Bond Coupon issued in 1869 . These were issued to raise funds for the war effort, when the North won, the bonds became worthless , this was a major hit to the South, not only did they lose the war, but many of them lost their savings because they put their money into the now worthless bonds, This is known as a Bond Coupon, it was attached to the actual bond these particular coupons are more historically important than most because they were signed personally with a stamp by Robert Tyler , Robert was the son of United states President John Tyler , John Tyler was the only Former President to be considered a sworn enemy of the United States Government, When he died there was no ceremony, it was completely ignored., You will receive the bond coupon pictured, it looks great , it is 141 years old , it was cut from the Bond much later , probably in the 1960's..... As always Free Shipping..

Check out my other great items.including a $2 bill from 1928 and a New LED watch.

Thanks.. Bond coupons were once not thought of as a collectable, they were trimmed from the Bonds themselves and then the bonds were sold as collectables, this made the bonds smaller and easier to trade, the leftover coupons were either thrown out or saved in storage. But now with so much interest in anything Civil War , these bond coupons are being traded and collected more frequently, this particular coupon is in great condition, many of them are not so great looking anymore..Thanks for stopping by and good Luck.

I'm so lost.

Why would they be issuing anything to do with war bonds from the south as late as 1869?

not sure.. It was what I was told, the info may not be 100% correct, but it is an original document from the period.,There are 2 dates on it, the first date says "Loan under Sec. 6 of act of Feb 17th 1864" .... The next time it mentions a date it says "Thirty Dollars for 6 months interest due July 1st 1872" .. Perhaps the person I got it from had there facts wrong about the date of issue..I am thinking 1869 would be too late for this too, it is probably more like 1865.. I will do some research and see if I can figure it out..Thanks

This is from the Feb. 17, 1864 series of bond issues. I also have one for sale. I believe it was due to be redeem on July 1, 1884, with a maturation value of $1,200 ($30 x 40 coupons, one every 6 months for 20 years).

I'm a bit skeptical. It looks to good to be real.

Yep, I understand, most don't look this good, but the person I got it from says it is real, and someone else here on Listia has one that looks just like this and they say it is real too, I am not an expert, but I can tell you that I bought 2 of these and the numbers on them were the same, meaning they were from the same bond but you can tell that the numbers are not exact matches like you would have if it were the same coupon being copied, you can tell they were hand written..... It looks so good that even a collector might think it is fake at first glance, but I do think it is real, the person I got it from assures me that it is..
