Description

The listing, Buddhist Amulet has ended.

Buddhist Amulet send from a friend in China.Amulet is the size of a quarter. It is made from a ligthweight metal (perhaps copper).

Amulet has a loop at the top to attach it to a cord (black or red is the traditional manner).

Amulet has a loop at the bottom to attach bllesing strings.

Side one of the Amulet displays a Buddha, sun and Asian caractures on both sides.

Side two of the Amulet displays the ying.yang sighn and Asian caractures surrounding it.

I'm working hard on trying to translate this.

Amulets are collectible and quite interesting. Some belive certain amulets have special powers, others like the artistic quality and variety. Collecting amulets is an interesting hobby rich with history. In addition, they look great framed.

I will be listing more in the upcoming weeks.

Hi Siri!

Siri, this really does not look like the standard buddha people see lots of time from China-that is often the future buddha. Also the tuft of hair on the top of the head seems very thai , but if it is thai the placement of the hands seem off.I'll keep digging in to it. This one is a mystery to me.

I think it is Kwan Yin with hands in a standard Japanese respect posture. I'm going to stick with Kwan Yin because of the veil coming off her hair and the lotus she is sitting on.

Wait, I asked about the other figure! Hi, albertsonaz! Anyway I don't know who Kwan YIn is... OK, I just figured out; I think you're correcting yourself from what you said in your listing? It's not a Buddhist figure as you said? Since you brought this up, isn't the yin/yang symbol Taoist? I always think of that as Chinese... I definitely am not an expert though... I would be interested in a clarification, and good luck with the auction!

Kwan Yin is not a buddha but a deity found very often on alters and is present in some form within most of the major Buddhist schools of thought and practice . The most important thing she signifies is an attention to suffering and the desire for mercy and to alleviate pain/suffering. The yin/yang is sometimes associated with healing and medicine (one is body/ one is soul). It's sometimes integrated ( as it relates to medicine/health) . You will see it ocassionally. Look up Kwan Yin also Quan Yin also Avalokitesvara- interesting stuff!

What language are the characters that you are trying to translate? Is it Sanskrit? I can't see it.

It's not sanskrit. I'm not sure yet. I'm starting with chinese but I don't see anything that matches yet.

TY JD. I'm starting to slowly list some of the stuff she sends me (we trade back/forth). I have some more 'usual'popular items like beads and rings that I will probably list next. I may even go in to the more uncommon items if it seems like people will appreciate them.

If it's not Chinese, then it's not Japanese. If you are still wondering and thinking it is an Asian language, you could blow it up and email it to me- I could get it translated for you.

I'll let you know if it really comes down to me not being able to do it. I used to be able to do this sort of thing easily but a bad accident caused significant cognitive damage, but I still have to work on it to try and get those abilities back.

I'm really sorry to hear about your cognitive damage. I have a family member and a friend that had that happen. I used to subscribe to a very inexpensive website through UCSF that has been developed by neuroscientists studying the recovery of skills. They have found that by playing these games consistently, people report improvement in the skills that they lost. Also I have some books on the subject that are pretty cutting edge and interesting. If you want the titles or to borrow them, you could. You are still intelligent. Very good that you are working on that translation project. :)

Ty so much Siri you're very kind. Most of the problems now have to deal with memory loss and a mild dyslexia. But it has gotten better.
