Description

The listing, Dog hair for spinning & knitting has ended.

I realize this is a bit odd but there is a market out there for dog hair. Some people like to spin it into yarn and knit with it. Well, My 90lbs Alaskan Malamute is shedding his undercoat for summer so I figured this would be the perfect time to see if any Listians enjoy this! So, here's a 5 gallon freezer bag full of my dog's undercoat! It's said to be warmer and repel water much better than wool and other materials. This is a photo of my dog. His top coat is black, but his undercoat (which is what will be sent) is a light tan/cream color. Any rude, or negative comments will be hidden, and you will be blocked.

Awesome idea! I have been looking for dog fur to blend with some alpaca wool I have. I know the stuff is mostly air so it does not weigh much. Have you looked into the large poly bags that are available on Listia? Shipping labels too. I do a lot of shipping and am always looking for deals on supplies.

Any idea what the priority package will cost? F&W

Thanks :). I'm trying the 5gal bag sort of as a trial, to see if anyone would be interested. Malamute hair is very thick, soft, and warm. The flat rate priority would be $5.50.

That is acceptable shipping! So how long would the staple length be? Hopefully over 2 inches. Anything shorter would be hard to work with. At least for me.

I've never measured for length but just by looking at it, it seems to be right around the 2 inch mark. It's not terribly long, just incredibly dense and fluffy lol

When I had Newfoundlanders I used to sell their sheds to a lady who spun it into yarn. Once dog fur yarn is spun and washed washed it is very soft and very nice to work with.

I've been told that it's illegal in California to actually sell dog fur :( But I think giving it away is okay....? I think it has to do with allergies when people unknowingly buy a product with dog hair in it.
