In the beginning, there were seven Shapers, who created several intelligent races to populate the world of Urulat. To Man, the third-born Shaper Satoris granted the Gift of desire. When Haomane, the eldest Shaper, ordered Satoris to take the gift back, an angry Satoris created a sundering, or rift, in the world. Haomane subsequently prophesied that if a certain marriage between the races of Man and Ellyon occurred, Satoris could be forever cast down and the world healed. Now, eons later, that marriage is imminent, and Satoris and his three immortal minions seek to thwart it, even though all the odds--and most of the races of Urulat--seem to be against them.
