XIX Corps was constituted as the III Armored Corps at Camp Polk, Louisiana on 7 July 1942 under the command of Major General Willis D. Crittenberger. It was activated 20 August 1942 at Camp Polk, Louisiana.
Retitled as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, XIX Corps, on 10 October 1943. Fought as part of the First and Ninth U.S. Armies in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns of World War II.
I posted this patch as a Memorial Day auction, to try to share an item that has historical significance. And also to remind that this patch represents our troops who not only went to war, and fought across Europe but that many died and are still buried over there.
