Description

The listing, LOOK!! something diffrent for your garden.. mouse melon cucumber seeds (5) has ended.

these are the cutest things, they are NOT melons lol these are cucumbers, they are very tiny they are also known as mexican sour jerkins. i recently bought these seeds and had a few left over and decided to share some, mine are about inches high right now and i am growing mine in a hanging basket on my patio. if you google mouse melons or mexican sour jerkins you will find a lot of info on these,i read that these taste like cucumber with a splash of lemon or sometimes like a jerkin thats already been pickled! they are supposed to be very producing vines!! i cant wait for mine to start fruiting, these are supposed to be very small fruits hence the name mouse melons they do look like tiny watermelons!!

I read up on these, and they are quickly becoming popular...I would love to try and grow some, just for the "difference" effect they would have. Pickling them sounds like a super idea...fanned and watching

found this from wikipedia:

Melothria scabra is a vine grown for its edible fruit. Fruit are about the size of grapes and taste like cucumbers with a tinge of sourness. Vernacular names include mouse melon, Mexican sour gherkin, cucamelon, Mexican miniature watermelon and Mexican sour cucumber.

This plant is native to Mexico and Central America, where it is called sandita (little watermelon). It is believed to have been a domesticated crop before western contact began.
