Description

The listing, MARIGOLD SEEDS - 50 has ended.

This auction is for 50 Marigold seeds. They are perennials. They are the prettiest flowers & come back year after year. We dry the plants & harvest the seeds before Spring but they also re-seed themselves. They are very hearty. I will be listing more. This is a stock photo because I didn't take pictures last year, but this is what they look like- yellows and oranges. I believe they are French Marigolds.

Marigolds can be used anywhere to deter Mexican bean beetles, squash bugs, thrips, tomato hornworms, and whiteflies. They are also known to repel harmful root knot nematodes (soil dwelling microscopic white worms) that attack tomatoes, potatoes, roses, and strawberries. The root of the Marigold produces a chemical that kills nematodes as they enter the soil. If a whole area is infested, at the end of the season, turn the Marigolds under so the roots will decay in the soil. You can safely plant there again the following spring.

Marigolds are one of the easiest bedding plants around as far as cultivation. They will do well in a wide variety of soil types. They do require full sun & will not bloom well if they don't receive at least 6 hours of sun per day. They are sturdy plants. They will bloom from the beginning of the season all the way to the end if the dead flower heads are cut off every week or so. In mid summer, they may show some signs of slowing down, & at that point they could use a little general purpose fertilizer to perk them up again.

I need some of these. The mairgolds keep the Mexican bean beetles away from my green beans in the garden. I had planted some heirloom seeds that I collection from my marigolds last year, but they didn't come up.

These re-seed like crazy. We got these from an elderly woman at church. She was selling her home and told us to take what we wanted. We plant rows of them in our garden because they do keep lots of bugs out. After we plow the garden they spring up and we transplant them in rows. We just let the plant dry, then cut the whole plant off and dry/store in the garage over winter. They are very easy to harvest seeds from and I've got to many I cannot sell them fast enough. I always send extras, because I have probably a whole cup of them and individual seeds are small. We keep finding random ones too, I'm guessing from birds dropping them...lol. They are so pretty too. Good luck!
