The listing, Free Rare Antique Hawthorne Book circa 1907-1910 Hardcover Stories Gibson Girl Old Vintage Classics has ended.
This is a very nice old antique hardcover book by Nathaniel Hawthorne. It has a dark red cloth hard cover with gold gilt labeling, a beautiful paste down that says Copyright 1907 and depicts what appears to be a Gibson Girl in period dress.
It's entitled "A Wonder-Book for Young and Old" published by Hurst & Company, New York, Knickerbocker Classics, with a frontispiece portrait of the author, measures about 5-1/2" x 4", and has 217 pages. I was not able to find this particular edition for sale anywhere else so I assume it is scarce.
Contents include The Gorgon's Head, The Golden Torch, The Three Golden Apples, The Paradise of Children, The Miraculous Pitcher, Bald-Summit, The Chimera, and more.
There's a gift inscription in pencil inside the front cover, but otherwise no obvious significant markings. The pages are mostly clean, bright, readable without apparent tears or folds, and the book is entirely still bound although the spine is loosening. Some light soiling, rubbing, edgewear to the cover typical for age and handling, but overall very nice.
