The listing, Desktop Hard Drive - SATA, 250GB, 3.5" has ended.

This is a Western Digital Caviar SE drive. The model number is WD2500JS-00NC61. (Shown in the second picture.)

S.M.A.R.T. (from HDDScan) comes back mainly "green."

There was a warning probably attributed to my USB-SATA enclosure and not the drive itself. (Attribute 199 - UltraDMA CRC Error, according to wikipedia: "The number of errors in data transfer via the interface cable as determined by ICRC (Interface Cyclic Redundancy Check)." )

There were two "errors" with the internal and airflow temperature, but according to several websites many Western Digital drives of this era had faulty temperature sensors. I confirmed that the drive was no warmer than most other drives I've used when it started or after doing a block-by-block erasing of the drive. (The temperature was reported the same for both internal and airflow at 67C/157F during start up and 72C/161F after running hard for about an hour.) I'm pretty confident is saying the temperature sensor is probably bad and the drive is not burning up.

Given the age of the drive (more than 4 years), I don't recommend this as the primary drive for any machine. I think that it is appropriate as a secondary drive or a backup drive.

This drive was part of a refurbished computer that I purchased. I used the computer lightly before swapping the drive for a larger one; this drive has been sitting in a box for a couple of years until I started testing it out today.

Note that this drive includes both a types of power connectors (third picture), so it can be used readily in a system without SATA power connections.

(It will probably cost me upwards of $8 to send this out since I'll be using a good amount of foam padding to protect it. I'm leaving the auction at 10 days in hopes of getting enough bids to offset the shipping expense.)

Thanks hon,completely understand about thew credits thing. Just thought I would let you know though, that if you use some bubble wrap and ship it in a small flat rate box you can save some money. A small flat rate box is $4.90 and you could probably get bubble wrapping for like a buck or so. Just a though to try and help you save a little cash,cause I know it is not cheap to ship thing now a days.
I will definitely be watching this one and I hope I can win.

Thanks, but I do prefer to ship it in a box meant for hard drives (which is what I did with my last hard drive auction) or with a couple of inches of anti-static/impact foam.

do not...i repeat DO NOT!!!! ever ship a hard drive in a flatrate box with just a thin layer of bubble wrap to protect it, I have won 3 drives off here that were packed that way and they all were dead when they arrived....if you have ever seen how manufacturers ship out drives, you would understand why the small flatrate box is a very BAD IDEA! The heads of the drive will contact the platter surface and destroy the drive.

it should be sent in a box that allows for at least 3 inches of foam padding or equivalent padding completely surrounding the drive, as well as wrapping the drive in anti-static plastic before packing it.

I can understand that and that is all cool I will still be bidding cause I need this for my desktop repair, it may not be dependable as a main drive as you said but it will let me get up some money to replace my drive with something really good then.

I usually ship with Delivery Confirmation, but for International shipping that gets very expensive - so I don't envision doing that. (I'll scan the receipt and send it to you as proof of mailing.) International shipping also takes a bit of time (in my limited experience, usually a couple of weeks), so be prepared to wait.

I expect the package to weight about 2lbs and I will be shipping from usps.com - so you can check rates and see if it is worth it to you.
