The listing, Hibiscus Aphrodite' Shrub seedling x 1 has ended.
The Hibiscus Aphrodite' hibiscus is valued for large single, pink (mauve like) flowers with a dark red eye that bloom in mid to late summer when few other flowering shrubs bloom. Peak bloom is around August.
Aphrodite' Hibiscus flowering shrubs grow best in sun or partial shade and in most any soil type. Their growth rate ranges from slow to moderate, and transplanting and propagation by stem cuttings is easy.
Shrub Aphrodite', also known as Althea and Rose Of Sharon is a vigorous, upright, vase shaped, multi-stemmed deciduous shrub that grows 8 - 12 ft tall. It may be trained as a small tree or espalier. Showy, hollyhock-like 5-petaled flowers appear over a long, early summer to fall bloom period. Each flowr has a prominent and showy centerstamenal column.
Excellent flowering shrub that may be massed planted in groups or used as a specimen. Good for foundations and shrub borders. They also can be effective as a hedge or screen.
Prune in late winter or early spring. Frequent severe pruning gives fewer, but larger flowers. Little or no pruning gives many small flowers. Best flowering occurs in full sun.
